We’d like to thank Adam Smeaton for sharing this story.
In 1998, I packed my life into my Nissan 240SX and hit the road to California with dreams of becoming a rock star. My brother Josh was cool enough to make the cross country drive with me. It was an exciting trip, with America whizzing past me and visions of my new life in Los Angeles firing through my synapses.
The second day we were in L.A., we went to the In-N-Out Burger on Sunset. (There’s a rule that all new arrivals have to go there). Right when we sat down with our food, Josh did a double take. He finally leaned forward and whispered, “That’s Bill Murray.” Of course Josh was so excited that it was more like a shout straining with the hoarseness of a whisper. Continue reading
The following story was submitted by Christine – Thank you!
It was spring around 1981; I was living in Fresh Meadows, Queens with my BFF Donna. I had taken the red-eye home from visiting my sister in LA that morning, then went to work but left early because I couldn’t keep my eyes open. I remember falling asleep on the living room floor, then being woken up by someone banging on the door.
“Chrissie, wake up and get dressed. Bill Murray is downstairs and we have to take him to Long Beach… I’ll explain in the car.” I remember digging through my suitcase and grabbing whatever I could. I got dressed and stumbled outside and, yes, Bill Murray and a friend were sitting there in Donna’s beat up Honda Civic. They handed us a quart bottle of Pabst Blue Ribbon and we were on our way.
We would like to thank Bryn for contributing her Bill Murray Story. Thanks!
Every once and a while I make late night Dunkin’ Donuts runs with friends. This may seem like no big deal to anyone from the east coast, but where I live, the only Dunkin’ is over 2 hours away. It’s always an adventure.
Just a couple weeks ago I got a call from 2 of my best friends. They were in New Mexico and would be driving all night to get home, their route would go through Colorado Springs, where Dunkin’ is located. The invited a friend and I to meet us there so I told them to call me when they got into Colorado, and we would start heading over there.
When it got to be around 2am, we started to regret this plan. We had no idea when they’d be getting into Colorado because, around 11pm, they had told us that they’d be in Colorado in a couple of hours. We just had to remember how wonderful the doughnuts would taste. Continue reading
Last fall I drove up to New England to visit my family and also some friends going to school in Boston. After a long drive one Friday afternoon that included getting stuck in New York City traffic for almost an hour and a half, I made it to my cousins’ house in Connecticut for dinner.
The next morning I decided to get up early in order to make it to Boston for lunch with my friends, who were studying at MIT at the time. I got there a bit earlier than anticipated so I decided to go for walk along the river before meeting up with them. It was a beautiful, sunny day and I was enjoying the comfortable fall weather.
